March 14, 1991, at the end of the 1st Gulf War, Habitation Clément sheltered the summit meeting of two heads of state: Georges Bush and François Mitterrand. The main house of the property is typically creole, with its jalousie windows which let the breeze of the trade winds enter but filter the sunrays.
