Before the former Hall of Justice, this monument stands sculpted by Marquet de Vasselot in memory of Victor Schoelcher. Inaugurated in 1904, it represents the famous abolitionist accompanied by a child. On the pedestal are engraved these famous words : Aucune terre française ne peut plus porter d'esclaves (French grounds cannot bear slaves any more).
